IHG Signs Agreement to Open Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Gwalior
IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Dutta Buildcon Pvt. Ltd. to develop Holiday Inn Express & Suites Gwalior, marking the brand’s entry into the city of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The new-build hotel is scheduled to open in early 2029 and will expand IHG’s presence in India’s secondary markets.
Holiday Inn Express, with over 3,200 hotels worldwide, focuses on providing efficient and comfortable stays. In India, 17 Holiday Inn Express hotels are currently operational, with 21 more under development. The upcoming Gwalior property will reflect the brand’s Generation 5 design, featuring flexible workspaces, updated aesthetics, and services such as the Express Start Breakfast.
Located on Jhansi Road, one of Gwalior’s main corridors, the hotel will include 140 rooms, a dining venue, event space, a meeting room, and a fitness centre, catering to both business and leisure travellers.

Gwalior, renowned for its historic landmarks such as Gwalior Fort and the Sun Temple, is also emerging as a hub for manufacturing, agro-industries, and infrastructure development. Its growing connectivity, including the expansion of Gwalior Airport, is expected to support increased corporate and leisure travel.
Commenting on the signing, Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are pleased to announce the signing of Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Gwalior. The city combines cultural significance with growing economic activity, making it a suitable location for the brand. This addition strengthens our focus on expanding in emerging urban centres across India.”
Representatives from Dutta Buildcon Pvt. Ltd. added: “We look forward to working with IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring Holiday Inn Express & Suites to Gwalior. This collaboration aligns with our plans to participate in the city’s growth across infrastructure and tourism.”
IHG currently operates 51 hotels across six brands in India and has 72 more in the pipeline, expected to open in the next 3–5 years.
