IHG Strengthens Presence in Mexico with Steady Expansion Plans

Growth Strategy Across Segments and Destinations

IHG Hotels & Resorts is continuing to expand its presence in Mexico, a key market within the Americas, with growth across its Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials and Suites segments. The country currently ranks among IHG’s largest global markets by the number of hotels and rooms, and the company plans to accelerate its development in the coming years.

IHG’s association with Mexico dates back more than five decades, starting with the opening of the first Holiday Inn in Acapulco in 1970. Today, the company operates 187 hotels with around 30,000 rooms across the country. Its development pipeline includes 62 additional hotels, adding approximately 8,600 rooms, reflecting ongoing interest from both owners and travellers.

Elie Maalouf

Elie Maalouf, Chief Executive Officer of IHG Hotels & Resorts, said Mexico continues to see steady travel demand from both domestic and international markets. He noted that IHG’s brand portfolio, distribution network and loyalty programme position the company to respond to this demand, supported by long-standing relationships with local partners.

Expanding Portfolio Across Midscale and Premium Segments

Over the past five years, IHG has added more than 6,000 rooms in Mexico across 14 brands. Its portfolio spans a range of travel needs, from city hotels and resorts to extended-stay options.

The company has continued to grow its midscale presence with recent openings, such as Holiday Inn Express Condesa Mexico City and Avid Hotel Guadalajara Aeropuerto Norte, and the introduction of its Garner brand in Mazatlán.

In the premium segment, recent and upcoming developments include Crowne Plaza Mérida and voco Ciudad de Mexico Reforma. IHG has also announced plans to introduce six voco hotels across cities, including Cancun, Guadalajara, Ciudad Juárez, San Luis Potosí, Torreón, and Nuevo Laredo.
