Crowne Plaza Maroochydore to Anchor Revamped Sunshine Coast Development
IHG Hotels & Resorts and Felix Capital have unveiled revised plans for a key hospitality project on Ocean Street, Maroochydore. The development will now feature Crowne Plaza Maroochydore, aiming to meet the Sunshine Coast’s increasing need for high-quality conference and accommodation facilities.
The hotel will include 180 guest rooms, over 770 square metres of flexible meeting and event space—including a 600sqm ballroom, and a range of leisure amenities such as a 30-metre pool and spa, wellness retreat, gym, sauna, and secure two-level basement parking.
Its diverse dining offerings include a 210-seat all-day restaurant, a 160-seat signature dining venue, a poolside bar and lounge, and a lobby bar designed to serve both visitors and locals for various occasions—from weddings and business events to family getaways.
Initially planned as a voco-branded property, the revised Crowne Plaza concept aligns with the region’s growing demand for conference and event (C&E) infrastructure.
“We worked closely with Felix Capital to rethink the project, ensuring it supports both guest experiences and regional needs,” said Matt Tripolone, Managing Director, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Australasia & Pacific.

Michael Maroun, Director at Felix Capital, added: “The positive response to our original plan, along with the opportunity to expand the site, gave us the chance to better serve the region’s future. Crowne Plaza allows us to create a hotel designed to attract events and enhance the area’s appeal year-round.”
According to local and state forecasts, the Sunshine Coast will need over 2,400 additional hotel rooms—equivalent to around 10 new hotels—by 2032 to sustain growth. Crowne Plaza Maroochydore is expected to support this demand while boosting tourism and business travel through year-round activation, meetings, and destination events.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with the opening targeted for 2028.
This marks the second project between IHG and Felix Capital, following the 2024 signing of Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra, slated to open in 2030.
