Hong Kong International Airport Opens Terminal 2 Departure Facilities

Terminal 2 Operations Begin at Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong International Airport has officially started operations at the new passenger departure facilities in Terminal 2 (T2), marking the next phase in the airport’s expansion plans.

Hong Kong Airlines became the first airline to move its check-in counters from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. On the first day of operations, 36 departing flights were scheduled from T2 beginning at approximately 8:00 am.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong confirmed that the relocation of check-in services for 14 additional airlines will continue in stages until 10 June.

Terminal 2 is connected to a range of transport services, including the Airport Express, public buses and taxi networks. Car Park 3, which provides more than 1,000 parking spaces, is directly linked to the terminal.

Retail outlets and dining facilities have also opened inside T2, including a food court and convenience store. Several dining venues and the convenience outlet will operate 24 hours a day.

According to Airport Authority Hong Kong Chief Executive Officer Vivian Cheung, Terminal 2 is expected to support leisure and regional short-haul travel, while Terminal 1 will continue focusing mainly on long-haul and transit services.

Passengers departing from T2 will use smart check-in and baggage drop counters before proceeding through facial recognition-enabled security gates and automated security screening systems. After immigration clearance, passengers will take the Automated People Mover to Terminal 1 for boarding.

The next phase of Hong Kong International Airport development will include the opening of the new Terminal 2 Concourse (T2C), which is expected to handle both arriving and departing passengers. The concourse is scheduled to begin operations before the end of next year, depending on passenger traffic demand.
