The Grand Dragon Ladakh Opens RYU OKA Restaurant
RYU OKA Restaurant Brings Pan-Asian Dining to Ladakh
The Grand Dragon Ladakh has announced the opening of RYU OKA, a new Pan-Asian restaurant inspired by the cultural and culinary exchanges of the historic Silk Route.
Located within the hotel in Ladakh, RYU OKA has been developed as a dining space that combines Asian culinary traditions with influences drawn from the region’s landscape, history and local ingredients.
The restaurant takes its name from “Dragon Hill” and extends The Grand Dragon Ladakh’s identity through a concept centred on authenticity, craftsmanship, and regional storytelling.

According to Anjum Qadir, who led the creative vision behind the restaurant, the idea for RYU OKA developed through research into Leh’s Silk Route history and the movement of cuisines and cultures across Asia. The concept focuses on presenting individual Asian cuisines without blending them into a fusion format.
The menu includes dishes inspired by culinary experiences from Japan, Korea, Thailand, China and Bali, while also considering Ladakh’s high-altitude environment. The restaurant uses local ingredients such as apricot, barley, sea buckthorn and buckwheat in selected dishes.
Signature offerings include Mongol Wrapped Tofu with collard greens, RYU OKA Clay Pot and Truffle Fried Rice.
The interiors combine Ladakhi design influences with Japanese-inspired elements and incorporate the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, focusing on texture, simplicity and handcrafted materials. Traditional woodwork patterns from Ladakhi monasteries and palaces have also been integrated into the restaurant’s design.
A central artwork created by Ladakhi artist Gulam Mustafa, inspired by the mountain landscape, forms part of the restaurant’s interior identity. Recycled wood sourced from older structures and furniture has been used throughout the space as part of the project’s sustainability approach.
The Grand Dragon Ladakh said the opening of RYU OKA reflects the region’s effort to expand dining experiences while remaining connected to Ladakh’s cultural and environmental character.
