Etihad Airways Begins Operations from Frankfurt Terminal 3
Frankfurt Terminal 3 opening marks new phase for Etihad Airways operations
Etihad Airways has operated the first departure from Frankfurt Airport’s newly opened Terminal 3, with flight EY122 to Abu Dhabi taking off at 10:30 local time on Thursday.
The flight was operated by Majed Al Marzouqi, Chief Operations and Guest Officer, who served as captain for the departure.
Prior to boarding, Captain Majed joined Pierre Dominique Prümm, Chief Technical Officer at Fraport AG, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the gate to mark the opening.
During departure, a couple travelling from Limburg to Singapore received an upgrade to Business Class for their journey to Abu Dhabi, which was presented to them at the gate by Captain Majed.
Terminal 3 introduces updated passenger facilities
Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport brings together check-in and security areas in open-plan spaces that allow natural light to flow through large windows. The terminal includes a central marketplace covering 6,000 square metres, offering a mix of dining, retail and seating areas with views of the apron.
Facilities also include designated play areas for families and workstations for business travellers. A Skyline rail system connects Terminal 3 with the airport’s other terminals, supporting passenger transfers across the airport.
Etihad’s Frankfurt service
Etihad Airways has operated flights between Abu Dhabi and Frankfurt since 2005. The airline currently runs two daily services on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Captain Majed Al Marzouqi said the opening of Terminal 3 introduces changes to the airport experience for passengers travelling through Frankfurt.
Pierre Dominique Prümm noted the long-standing cooperation between Frankfurt Airport and Etihad Airways, adding that the airline’s participation in the first departure from the new terminal reflects this relationship.
The move forms part of ongoing developments at Frankfurt Airport, with Terminal 3 designed to accommodate future passenger demand while supporting airline operations.
