easyJet Holidays Shares Formula for a Balanced Holiday
The formula for a balanced holiday has been outlined, including 4.8 hours of sunshine, 6.1 hours of sleep, and 2.2 hours of physical activity each day to help achieve a sense of well-being.
The findings were released by easyJet Holidays in collaboration with Dr. Andy Cope, focusing on how travellers can make the most of their time away. The research also suggests that 3.9 hours away from screens helps lower stress levels.
According to the study, holiday mode begins at different points:
19% feel it starts when their ‘out of office’ is switched on.
27% believe it begins when leaving home.
8% say it starts upon arrival at the destination.
On average, it takes travellers two days to fully disconnect from work, while a small number (4%) require a week or more.
Dr. Cope highlights the role of people in shaping holiday happiness, with a balance of 70% family time and 30% personal time. He also recommends nine hours of rest daily, three litres of water for hydration, and a small treat each day as part of the holiday experience.
The research identified the top ten activities that contribute to holiday enjoyment:
Going to the beach
Swimming in the pool
Visiting a cultural monument
Trying local cuisine
Relaxing on a sun lounger
Reading a book
Watching a sunrise or sunset
Exploring local shops
Capturing moments on camera
Going for a hike

Dr. Andy Cope says: “Most people are living life fast, but we’re not necessarily living it well. Holidays give us all a chance to rest, rejuvenate and come back fully charged. Human brains are great at pre-living and re-living, which means we can start enjoying the holiday the moment it’s booked, and retain our happiness glow long after we get back.
The happiest holidays aren’t about ticking off sights, they’re about feeling relaxed, present, and a little bit more like ourselves. My prescription for holiday heaven: aim for 25°C-ish, with sunshine, a light breeze, lovely people and zero emails.”
