Guwahati Airport Opens Up New Routes

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) is located in Guwahati, Assam. It is managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, one of the leading companies within the diversified Adani Group. In 2024, the airport witnessed a surge in passenger traffic, marking a significant milestone in its operational history.

Throughout the year, LGBI Airport reported a remarkable total of 6.26 million passengers. This figure encompasses an impressive 3.09 million domestic arrivals and 3.17 million domestic departures, indicating a robust demand for travel within the country. On the international front, the airport facilitated 47,578 international passenger arrivals and 38,528 international passenger departures, reflecting a growing interest in international travel from the region.

Additionally, December 2024 stood out as a particularly notable month for the airport. During this period, LGBI Airport achieved a remarkable feat by handling 225 metric tons of perishable cargo, demonstrating its capacity to manage diverse types of freight alongside passenger traffic. Moreover, December 12, 2024, became a historic day as the airport set a new single-day record, accommodating a staggering 21,444 passengers—a number that includes both outbound and inbound transit travellers. This achievement is a testament to the ongoing infrastructure improvements at LGBI Airport, which have been designed to enhance efficiency and ensure that the airport can comfortably handle increased passenger volumes.

In addition to managing heightened passenger numbers, LGBI Airport has made significant strides in expanding its international route network. The introduction of direct flights to key international destinations such as Paro (Bhutan), Malaysia, and Singapore has been a game-changer, greatly enhancing the airport’s connectivity and attractiveness for international travellers. These new flight routes have played a crucial role in boosting not only international passenger traffic but also overall aircraft traffic movements (ATMs), significantly contributing to the airport’s growth and economic impact in the region.
