Choice Hotels to Expand Ascend Collection in Québec with Six New Properties

Choice Hotels International, Inc. has announced the expansion of its upscale soft brand, Ascend Collection, in Canada, with six new properties planned to open in Québec in early 2026. The hotels are part of a multi-unit agreement and represent an early phase of the company’s growth plans following the consolidation of Choice Hotels Canada.

The new additions will increase Ascend Collection’s presence in Montréal and key resort destinations, and expand the number of Canadian locations available for redemption through Choice Privileges, the company’s loyalty programme, which provides access to more than 7,100 hotels globally.

New Ascend Collection properties in Québec

  • Hotel Brossard, Brossard – A 139-room hotel located near downtown Montréal, offering suite-style accommodations with European chateau-inspired interiors. Some rooms include in-room fireplaces.

  • Hotel Cheribourg, Orford – A 123-room property featuring jacuzzis, indoor and outdoor pools, an indoor children’s play area, and a mini farm.

  • Hotel du Domaine, Thetford Mines – Offering more than 100 rooms along with lakeside chalets and ready-to-camp pods, set in the Appalachian Mountains region.

  • Hotel Montréal Metropolitan, Montréal – A 92-room hotel with accommodations that include fully equipped kitchens and an on-site Cuban restaurant.

  • La Cache du Lac Champlain, Venise-en-Québec – A 56-room boutique hotel with lakeside views, a spa, and access to an 18-hole golf course.

  • Manor Des Sables, Orford – A 141-room property overlooking Mount Orford, featuring indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, sports facilities, and an 18-hole golf course.

With these additions, the Ascend Collection portfolio in Canada is expected to grow by approximately 20%, strengthening the brand’s footprint in established leisure and urban markets. The announcement follows continued performance in the Canadian market, including a 7% year-over-year increase in RevPAR in the third quarter.

Pat Pacious, President and Chief Executive Officer of Choice Hotels, said the company’s shift to a direct franchising model in Canada has supported its current expansion strategy. He added that the Ascend Collection aligns with Choice Hotels’ broader efforts to provide a range of distinctive, locally focused hotel experiences.

The multi-unit agreement is led by Bing Zhao, a Québec-based hotel developer and a Choice Hotels franchisee since 2017. Zhao said the company’s approach to franchise support and distribution influenced his decision to expand further with the Ascend Collection brand.

Choice Hotels continues to maintain an active development pipeline in Canada, with more than 2,800 rooms under development as of the third quarter. The company also plans to introduce additional brands in the market, including Cambria Hotels, which is scheduled to debut in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Brian Leon, Chief Executive Officer of Choice Hotels Canada, said the consolidation of the Canadian business has provided access to the company’s full brand portfolio and development resources, enabling further growth across multiple segments nationwide.

Internationally, Choice Hotels expects continued expansion outside the U.S., where its portfolio now exceeds 150,000 rooms. Recent developments include new hotel openings in Kenya, the introduction of extended-stay brands in Australia, portfolio growth in France, expanded partnerships in China, and the renewal of long-term franchise agreements in Brazil.
