China Airlines Launches Direct Taiwan–Phoenix Route, Strengthening U.S.–Asia Connectivity

China Airlines has announced the introduction of nonstop service between Taiwan and Phoenix, Arizona, becoming the first Asian airline to operate direct flights to the southwestern U.S. city. The new long-haul route, operated by the Airbus A350-900, is designed to enhance travel, business, and tourism between East Asia and the interior United States.
This move expands China Airlines’ presence in North America. It adds Phoenix to its transpacific network, which currently includes destinations such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Ontario (California), and Vancouver. The Taiwan–Phoenix route is expected to meet increasing two-way travel demand from Taiwanese travellers visiting inland U.S. destinations and Americans seeking direct access to Asia from the Southwest.
Enhanced Connectivity and Convenience
The new service will operate using the Airbus A350-900, known for its long-range capability, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort. The aircraft is part of China Airlines’ strategy to modernize its fleet and improve the overall travel experience on long-haul routes.
A key feature of the Phoenix service is its integration with an interline partner that operates a primary hub at Phoenix Sky Harbour International Airport. This arrangement will allow seamless onward connections to other U.S. destinations, reducing transfer times and eliminating the need for baggage rechecking or terminal changes. Travellers from Taiwan can now access a wide range of cities across the Southwest, Midwest, and beyond via a single itinerary.
Supporting Business and Industry Ties

The direct connection between Taiwan and Phoenix is expected to facilitate business travel between the two regions. The greater Phoenix area has experienced growth in sectors such as semiconductors, aerospace, and clean energy—industries with established links to Taiwan’s economy. The new route aligns with broader trends in aviation, where international carriers are increasingly targeting secondary U.S. cities that offer operational efficiencies and growing passenger demand.
Expansion in New York and Fleet Developments

In addition to the Phoenix launch, China Airlines is expanding its service to New York’s JFK International Airport and preparing to relocate its operations to the newly constructed Terminal One, which is expected to open next year. The terminal will offer upgraded amenities and improved processing capacity to enhance the overall passenger experience.
The Airbus A350-900, which will be used on the Phoenix route, features an updated cabin design, advanced aerodynamics, and lower fuel consumption. Passengers can expect quieter cabins, improved air quality, and modern seating, including lie-flat business class seats and upgraded in-flight entertainment. These features reflect the airline’s ongoing commitment to passenger comfort and environmental sustainability.
Looking Ahead

The launch of this route reflects China Airlines’ efforts to expand its presence in North America and offer more direct options for travellers between Taiwan and the United States. By adding Phoenix to its network, the airline is addressing evolving travel patterns and tapping into new markets with growing demand for business and leisure travel.
The new service is expected to launch in the coming months, with ticket sales opening shortly via all official channels. With this development, China Airlines continues to diversify its U.S. operations and strengthen Taiwan’s global air links.
