Cathay Pacific has expanded its presence in Latin America by introducing new codeshare flights with oneworld alliance partner Iberia, adding Fortaleza and Recife in Brazil, Buenos Aires in Argentina and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic to its growing network.
The new partnership marks the first time Cathay Pacific has included Argentina and the Dominican Republic in its codeshare network, strengthening connectivity between Hong Kong and the emerging Belt and Road region of Latin America.
Cathay Pacific Adds Four New Latin America Destinations
Through its expanded agreement with Iberia, the airline now offers customers more travel options across Latin America via Madrid. The airline already serves six destinations in four Latin American countries through codeshare partnerships, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Lima and Santiago.
The expansion further strengthens Cathay Pacific’s international network while improving travel choices for both business and leisure passengers.
Cathay Pacific Increases Hong Kong-Madrid Flights
To support the new codeshare services, the airline will increase its non-stop Hong Kong-Madrid service from 25 October 2026, adding three additional weekly flights and making the route a daily service.
The airline’s Madrid service, first launched in 2016, has become an important gateway connecting Asia with Spain and onward destinations across Latin America. Cathay Pacific also operates a seasonal service between Hong Kong and Barcelona.
Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau said the expanded codeshare network and increased Madrid frequency demonstrate the airline’s commitment to strengthening global connectivity while reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a leading international aviation hub.
Strengthening Global Connectivity
The expanded Latin America network supports Cathay Pacific’s strategy to provide greater connectivity between Asia and international markets. The Cathay Group currently operates flights to 33 destinations across Belt and Road participating countries, with nearly 600 weekly flights, while additional destinations are served through strategic codeshare partnerships.
