Cultural Connection: Avani Victoria Falls Offers Immersive Boma Dining Experience by the Zambezi

As Zambia’s dry season unfolds and the mist from Victoria Falls begins to clear, Avani Victoria Falls Resort invites guests to explore more than just the landscape. The resort’s signature Boma Dinner offers a cultural dining experience rooted in Zambian heritage, blending traditional cuisine, storytelling, and music in a scenic riverside setting.

Held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings at the open-air Mukuni Boma restaurant, the event aligns with Zambia’s peak safari season, when cooler weather and clear skies make for comfortable exploration. From July to October, visitors also witness a unique natural transformation as Victoria Falls’ water levels drop, revealing dramatic rock formations locally known as the “Skeleton of the Falls.”
Located along the Zambezi River and within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, the Boma Dinner invites guests to connect with the local community. The evening begins with a welcome drink, followed by a four-course meal featuring indigenous ingredients and Pan-African dishes. Highlights include chikanda (a spiced orchid-root delicacy) and ifisashi (a peanut and leafy greens stew), offering a glimpse into Zambia’s culinary traditions.
As night falls, lanterns light up the space and local performers, including the Amakhezi troupe, share stories, songs, and dances. Guests are encouraged to participate, whether by dancing or joining in on the djembe drums, creating a shared cultural moment between visitors and hosts.

The Boma Dinner experience responds to the rising interest in experiential travel, providing a chance to engage meaningfully with Zambia’s living heritage. Whether part of a family trip or a solo journey, the event invites guests to explore culture through taste, sound, and storytelling.

Avani Victoria Falls Resort, just steps from the UNESCO-listed waterfall, offers convenient access to both natural and cultural attractions. The Family Getaway package starts from USD 720 per room, per night for a family of four in an Avani Family Room, including breakfast. Solo travellers and couples can book from USD 270 per room, per night, also inclusive of breakfast. All prices include applicable taxes and fees.
