ATE26 Adelaide Tourism Event Highlights and Sydney Plans for 2027

The Australian Tourism Exchange 2026, concluded today at the Adelaide Convention Centre with the announcement that Sydney will host the next edition of the event in 2027. The event will return to Sydney for the first time in five years.

ATE is one of Australia’s major tourism trade events. It brings together tourism businesses from across Australia with international travel buyers and industry representatives. The goal is to help tourism operators build partnerships and create future travel opportunities for visitors coming to Australia.

More Than 2900 Delegates Attended ATE26

This year’s event attracted more than 2900 attendees. The participants included international buyers from 32 countries along with Australian tourism operators and visitor economy stakeholders.

The event gave tourism businesses an opportunity to meet buyers directly through scheduled business appointments and networking sessions. These meetings focused on promoting Australian travel experiences to international markets and building future tourism demand.

This event featured tourism experiences from different regions across Australia including nature tourism, luxury travel, cultural experiences, food and wine tourism and regional travel offerings.

Sydney to Host ATE27 in 2027

Tourism Australia announced that ATE27 will take place at the International Convention Centre Sydney from 16 to 20 May 2027. The event will be delivered in partnership with Destination NSW.

The upcoming event is expected to showcase tourism experiences from Sydney and regional New South Wales. This includes attractions, accommodation providers, tour operators and visitor experiences across the state.

The announcement comes during an important period for tourism development in New South Wales. The state is preparing for the opening of the Western Sydney International Airport later this year. The airport is expected to support future tourism growth by improving international and domestic connectivity.

Australia is also preparing to host the Rugby World Cup in 2027, which is expected to bring international visitors to the country during the same period.

Tourism Australia Highlights Industry Importance

Tourism Australia Managing Director Robin Mack said the organisation has been running ATE for nearly five decades.

According to Mack, the event continues to play an important role in connecting Australian tourism experiences with international travel buyers. He noted that face-to-face meetings during the event help tourism businesses strengthen partnerships and create future business opportunities.

The event also supports long-term tourism planning by helping international travel companies include Australian experiences in future travel packages and itineraries.

Destination NSW Discusses Future Opportunities

Destination NSW Managing Director Karen Jones said the organisation is looking forward to welcoming travel buyers and tourism industry stakeholders to Sydney.

She said the event supports inbound tourism growth by helping tourism operators develop business relationships and expand international connections. Destination NSW will work alongside Tourism Australia and local tourism businesses to deliver the event in Sydney.

Importance of ATE for the Tourism Industry

The event has become an important annual meeting point for the Australian tourism industry. It allows tourism operators to promote destinations and experiences directly to international travel companies, wholesalers and agents.

Events like this can help regional tourism operators gain international exposure and attract future visitors. The event also supports collaboration between tourism organisations, government bodies and private businesses.

The return of ATE to Sydney in 2027 is expected to bring attention to tourism opportunities across New South Wales while supporting broader tourism industry goals for Australia.

What to Expect from ATE27

The event is expected to feature business meetings, tourism showcases, networking sessions and industry discussions. Tourism operators from across Australia will have the opportunity to present their offerings to international buyers visiting Sydney for the event.

Regional New South Wales destinations are also likely to receive increased attention as part of the event’s focus on promoting local tourism experiences.

With the opening of Western Sydney International Airport and major sporting events planned in Australia over the coming years, tourism organisations are preparing for increased visitor activity and stronger international engagement.
