American Airlines Expands Chicago Network with New Tokyo Route

American Airlines has announced a new nonstop service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Tokyo Narita (NRT), scheduled to begin next spring in partnership with Japan Airlines.

The new year-round route will strengthen connectivity between North America and Japan while offering travellers additional options for business and leisure travel.

American Airlines Chief Executive Officer Robert Isom announced the new service during an event at Chicago O’Hare, highlighting the airline’s continued investment in its Chicago hub and its long-standing partnership with Japan Airlines.

The new route will also provide convenient onward connections through Tokyo Narita to destinations including Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei and Ho Chi Minh City via Japan Airlines’ network.

The daily service will be operated using a Boeing 787-9, featuring 30 Flagship Business seats and 21 Premium Economy seats.

Alongside the Tokyo launch, American Airlines will expand its domestic network from Chicago with new services to Charlottesville, Virginia, beginning in November, and Ontario, California, starting in December.

The airline has continued to invest in its Chicago hub with the addition of new destinations, upgraded passenger facilities and enhanced onboard products. Recent improvements include a new Admiral’s Club lounge, expanded premium seating options and upgraded customer amenities.

Passengers travelling on the Chicago–Tokyo route will also benefit from the airline’s joint business agreement with Japan Airlines, which allows eligible AAdvantage members to earn and redeem miles and access reciprocal loyalty benefits.

Tickets for the new Chicago–Tokyo service will be available through the American Airlines website and mobile application.
