Air India Launches Delhi–Rome Service, Expands Europe Network
New Route Adds Rome as Eighth Mainland Europe Gateway
Air India has launched a four-times-weekly non-stop service between Delhi and Rome Fiumicino, marking its return to the Italian capital after nearly six years. The addition expands the airline’s presence in Mainland Europe, with Rome becoming its eighth gateway in the region and second destination in Italy after Milan.
The inaugural flight, AI123, departed Delhi on 25 March and arrived in Rome later that day. The service was received by representatives from the Indian Embassy in Italy, airport officials and Air India staff. A return flight from Rome to Delhi also operated the same day.

Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, said the route reflects continued travel demand between India and Europe across both leisure and business segments, while also supporting connectivity through the airline’s Delhi hub.
Strengthening Connectivity Between India and Italy

Italy remains an important partner for India in areas such as trade, tourism and cultural exchange. Bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded USD 14 billion in 2025, with sectors such as engineering, automotive, fashion, and design contributing to growth. The Indian community in Italy, estimated at over 200,000 people, also supports travel demand between the two countries.
The new route is expected to improve connectivity between the two countries and provide onward travel options via Delhi to destinations across India and Southeast Asia.
Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer of Aeroporti di Roma, said the addition of the Delhi route supports passenger demand and strengthens connectivity between Italy and Asia.
Flight Schedule and Operations
Air India will operate the Delhi–Rome route four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays—using Boeing 787-8 aircraft configured with Business and Economy Class cabins.
