Air India Marks International Women’s Day with Nine All-Women Managed Flights
Air India celebrated International Women’s Day by operating nine flights entirely managed by women in key operational roles. The initiative spotlighted women’s involvement in both the airline’s flight and ground operations.
The flights operated on selected domestic and international routes, including services connecting London Heathrow, New Delhi, and Mumbai. Each flight was coordinated by women professionals across various roles, such as pilots, cabin crew, crew roster planning analysts, rostering staff, flight dispatchers, meteorologists, crew flight controllers, and an operations control duty manager responsible for overseeing the journey from departure to arrival.
The initiative highlights the airline’s focus on increasing female participation in various aviation roles. It also supports the Tata Group’s commitment to fostering diversity and creating an equitable workplace.
In line with the 2026 International Women’s Day theme, #GiveToGain, Air India also introduced initiatives to support women employees at different stages of their careers. The programmes are designed to create opportunities for women to pursue roles across aviation and leadership functions, including pilots, cabin crew, aircraft maintenance engineers, airport operations professionals, security personnel and commercial teams.
Among the initiatives are #HerMatters, which supports women employees during significant life events, and #MakingOurMothersSoar, a programme designed to assist mothers returning to work. The airline has also introduced digital learning programmes to help women develop skills relevant to their roles and career progression.
Women currently make up a large proportion of Air India’s cabin crew, at 84 percent. Their involvement is also growing in operational roles. In airport operations, women’s representation has increased from 24 percent to 31 percent over the past two years. In security roles, representation has risen from 14 percent to 22 percent.

Women are also taking on roles in Digital, Technology, and Flight Operations, areas that support daily airline operations. Currently, women pilots make up 16 percent of Air India’s pilot workforce, compared to a global average of around five percent. Through these initiatives, Air India continues to promote greater participation of women across operational, technical, and leadership roles within the organization.
