Air India Deploys Upgraded Boeing 777-300ER on Delhi–Melbourne Route
Air India Expands Melbourne Services with More Premium Seats and First Class
Air India will introduce its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on flights between Delhi and Melbourne from 1 July, replacing the Boeing 787-8 currently operating the route. The change adds First Class to the route, increases premium seating capacity, and introduces a range of onboard improvements.
The Boeing 777-300ER is configured with eight First Class suites, 40 fully flat Business Class seats and 280 Economy Class seats. Compared with the Boeing 787-8, which offers 28 Business Class and 241 Economy Class seats, the upgraded aircraft provides additional premium seating and greater overall capacity.
Passengers travelling on the Delhi–Melbourne route will also have access to Wi-Fi connectivity for the first time, allowing them to stay connected throughout the flight.
The aircraft also features refreshed dining options with a selection of Indian and international dishes, along with wines and spirits. The inflight entertainment system includes a wider choice of films, television programmes and music.
Eligible premium passengers departing from Delhi will have access to Air India’s Maharaja Lounge, which offers dining, seating, and other pre-flight facilities.
Australia remains an important market for Air India. The airline currently operates four non-stop flights each week between Delhi and Melbourne and plans to increase the service to daily flights from 1 September 2026.
The Delhi–Melbourne route also offers convenient onward connections through Delhi to destinations across Europe, including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Milan and Zurich. Air India also operates non-stop services between Delhi and Sydney, providing additional connectivity to the UK and Europe.
