Air India Adds New Routes to Hanoi and Tokyo
Air India has announced the launch of two new international routes as part of its network expansion in Asia. The airline will introduce non-stop flights from Delhi to Hanoi, and from Mumbai to Tokyo Haneda Airport.
The Delhi–Hanoi service will begin on 1 May 2026 and operate five times a week. With this addition, Hanoi becomes Air India’s second destination in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City, where the airline already operates daily flights.
The new route will allow travellers to plan open-jaw itineraries within Vietnam, such as arriving in Hanoi and departing from Ho Chi Minh City, or the reverse. Air India will operate the route using Airbus A320neo aircraft.
The airline said the service will add more than 7,000 seats per month between India and Vietnam. Passengers flying from Hanoi will also have access to connecting flights across Air India’s domestic and international network, including destinations in the United Kingdom and Europe.

The new Mumbai–Tokyo route will complement the airline’s existing service between Delhi and Tokyo Haneda. Earlier this year, Air India increased the frequency of the Delhi–Tokyo route from four weekly flights to daily operations.
The airline has also introduced upgraded cabin products on the route using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, including Premium Economy seating, updated inflight entertainment systems, and onboard connectivity.
Through its codeshare partnership with All Nippon Airways, Air India passengers arriving in Tokyo can connect to several Japanese cities, including Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, and Sapporo.

According to the Japan National Tourism Organization, more than 315,000 Indian travellers visited Japan in 2025, reflecting strong growth compared with the previous year and higher numbers than before the pandemic.
Vietnam has also seen increasing interest among leisure travellers and corporate groups. The country recorded more than 20 million international visitors in 2025 and has become one of the most visited destinations in Southeast Asia.

Commenting on the new routes, Nipun Aggarwal said the airline has been expanding its network across Southeast Asia and the Far East while improving connectivity and partnerships.
