Air India Launches Easy Connect Flights from Varanasi
Easy Connect Simplifies International Travel Through Air India
Air India has launched its new Easy Connect service, introducing a hub-and-spoke travel model designed to provide smoother international connections for passengers travelling from cities across India.
The first Easy Connect flight, AI1111, departed from Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport to Delhi on 25 June. Passengers on the inaugural service continued their journeys to international destinations including Dubai, Colombo, Jeddah, Riyadh, Kathmandu and Phuket.
The inaugural flight was flagged off by Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who said the new model aims to make international air travel more accessible by allowing passengers to begin their overseas journeys from their home cities through Indian hub airports.
Air India plans to gradually expand the Easy Connect network by linking more domestic cities to its hubs in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The airline intends to introduce the service from Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Chennai, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Patna, Vadodara and Visakhapatnam over the coming months.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, said the initiative is designed to reduce the need for Indian travellers to transit through overseas airports when flying internationally. He added that the service allows passengers to begin their journey in their home city and connect to destinations around the world via Air India’s domestic hubs.
The Easy Connect service offers check-in through to the final destination, immigration clearance at the departure airport, and seamless transfers through Delhi or Mumbai without the need to collect and recheck baggage.
Passengers travelling on Easy Connect services must complete certain pre-departure requirements, including DigiYatra enrolment for eligible Indian passport holders. Bookings are available through Air India’s website, mobile app, contact centre and authorised travel agents.
The inaugural Varanasi–Delhi Easy Connect service provides onward connections to 17 international destinations within four hours of arrival in Delhi, including London, Rome, Milan, Frankfurt, Zurich, Dubai, Riyadh and Jeddah.
