Thailand Strengthens Global Position Ahead of IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings

Thailand is preparing to host the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) from 12 to 18 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. The countdown marks a major milestone as the country reinforces its position as a leading destination for international meetings, business travel and cultural exchange.

The event is expected to welcome thousands of delegates including finance ministers, central bank governors, policymakers, business leaders, academics, civil society representatives and international media from around the world.

Thailand Returns to the Global Stage After 35 Years

The country will host the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings for the second time, following the 1991 edition in Bangkok. Held every October, the meetings take place at the IMF and World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. for two consecutive years before rotating to a selected member country every third year.

Returning after 35 years, the event reflects Thailand’s continued progress as a regional hub with modern infrastructure, strong connectivity, quality hospitality and proven expertise in hosting large international events.

Theme Highlights Resilience and Global Cooperation

Held under the theme “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience,” the 2026 meetings will showcase The country’s readiness to contribute to international discussions on economic growth, resilience and sustainable development.

Delegates will experience Bangkok’s efficient transport network, renowned hospitality, cultural attractions, shopping districts and diverse culinary experiences throughout the event.

Boost for Business Events and Tourism

Hosting the Annual Meetings reinforces Thailand’s reputation as a safe, well-connected and welcoming destination for international conferences and business events. Beyond the official programme, the event will provide an opportunity to showcase the country’s cultural heritage, creativity and tourism experiences to a global audience.

The meetings are also expected to strengthen Thailand’s position as a preferred destination for high-value business travel while creating opportunities for long-term tourism growth.
