Airbus Defence and Space and Ukrainian defence technology company SkyFall have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership focused on air defence innovation and technology development.

Under the partnership, Airbus and SkyFall will work together to develop defence technologies to strengthen airspace protection and support the evolution of Europe’s defence capabilities. The collaboration combines Airbus’ experience in integrated defence systems with SkyFall’s expertise in unmanned aerial systems and operational insights gained from real-world deployments.

SkyFall has developed and manufactured a range of unmanned aerial systems used for combat operations, logistics support and military reconnaissance. The company has become known for its rapid development cycles and ability to move technologies from concept to deployment in a relatively short timeframe.

Michael Schoellhorn, Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Defence and Space, said the changing nature of aerial threats requires a combination of technological adaptability, interoperability and proven operational capabilities.

He said the partnership brings together Airbus’ expertise in integrated air and missile defence systems with Ukraine’s practical experience in modern conflict environments, supporting the development of a multi-layered air defence approach.

Mykola Makovieiev, Chief Executive Officer of SkyFall, said the collaboration would focus on developing new technologies designed to strengthen air defence capabilities in both Ukraine and Europe.

According to SkyFall, its interceptor systems have been used extensively in operational environments to counter aerial threats, providing valuable data and experience that can contribute to future defence projects.

The initiative also aligns with the objectives of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI), a cooperative air defence framework designed to improve coordination and strengthen air defence capabilities across Europe.

Both companies said the partnership reflects a broader effort to encourage technological cooperation, industrial collaboration and innovation within the European defence sector while supporting the development of next-generation defence solutions.
