Hilton Signs Umfolozi River Hotel in South Africa

Umfolozi River Hotel to Join Hilton’s Tapestry Collection in KwaZulu-Natal

Hilton has announced the signing of Umfolozi River Hotel, KwaZulu-Natal, Tapestry Collection by Hilton in partnership with Umfolozi Hotel and Spa (Pty) Ltd.

Expected to open in 2028, the property marks the second Tapestry Collection by Hilton signing in South Africa within the past year. It forms part of the hotel group’s continued expansion across leisure destinations in the country.

Located in Mtubatuba in the KwaZulu-Natal region, the hotel will offer access to attractions including Hluhluwe–Imfolozi Game Reserve and iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The hotel will feature 102 guest rooms and suites, as well as an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby café and bar, a spa, a fitness center, a swimming pool, meeting rooms, and a ballroom for events and gatherings.

The hotel group stated that the property will emphasize hospitality experiences inspired by the local culture and heritage of the region.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President, Development, Europe, Middle East and Africa at Hilton, said the signing reflects continued interest in lifestyle and experience-led stays across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Zakhele Mkhize, Executive Chairman of Umfolozi Hotel and Spa (Pty) Ltd., said the project aims to showcase the culture and natural surroundings of KwaZulu-Natal while delivering international hospitality standards.

Valor Hospitality Partners will manage the property and oversee hotel operations as part of its partnership with the hotel group. Currently, the hotel group operates 12 hotels that are either trading or in development across South Africa, with additional projects planned throughout Africa.
