Skyscanner Launches Its New Generative AI Travel Planning Tool

Skyscanner, a global travel app, has introduced a new app-exclusive feature called Savvy Search, powered by OpenAI’s Chat GPT technology. This tool allows travellers to describe the type of trip they’re going for, and the app will provide up to three curated destination recommendations.

Unlike many other AI-inspired travel tools, Savvy Search combines imagery with detailed destination descriptions to showcase the unique characteristics of each recommendation. Once a destination is chosen, travellers can proceed to Skyscanner’s flight search to compare prices and book their flights.

Piero Sierra, Chief Product Officer at Skyscanner, commented, “Skyscanner has been assisting travellers with its Everywhere search for the past 17 years. We are now leveraging AI to help travellers in the discovery phase of their travel planning journey, as reported in Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2024. Globally, 44% of travellers use AI to aid their travel planning, with significant variation across different markets. The next logical step for us is to use the available AI technologies to further assist travellers in finding inspiration for their trips.”
