A high-level meeting chaired by Maharashtra’s Minister for Tourism, Shambhuraj Desai, was held on December 26, 2025, in Mumbai to review the development of a five-star hotel project proposed by Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) at Shiroda–Velaghar in Sindhudurg district.

The meeting took place at the government residence, Meghdoot, and focused on resolving pending issues related to land acquisition, compensation, and project timelines.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Fisheries and Ports Nitesh Rane, Sawantwadi MLA Deepak Kesarkar, Principal Secretary (Tourism) Sanjay Khandare (IAS), Managing Director of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation Neelesh Ramesh Gatne (IAS), and Deputy Secretary and Joint Director, Directorate of Tourism, Vijay Powar. Representatives from IHCL and local villagers were also present, while the Sindhudurg District Collector joined via video conferencing.

During the meeting, the Tourism Minister directed officials to ensure that compensation payments to landowners are completed at the earliest, in two phases. He also stated that a tripartite agreement between local villagers, IHCL, and the Maharashtra Tourism Department will be finalised soon. The agreement is intended to provide clarity on compensation, safeguard local interests, outline employment opportunities, and ensure structured execution of the project.

Minister of Fisheries and Ports, Mr Nitesh Rane, said, “His special thanks to Hon. Minister of Tourism, Mr Shambhuraj Desai. He pointed out that, due to Minister Desai’s concerted efforts, the long-pending project is now back on track and will greatly help the development of Sindhudurg’s first Five-Star hotel. He also urged the people of Sindhudurg, through Hon. MLA Mr Deepak Kesarkar, to give their wholehearted support to this grand tourism venture.”

After the completion of this project, the tourism sector in the Sindhudurg district is expected to receive a boost, and more jobs will be created for the youth
