Royal Caribbean Names Star of the Seas at Port Canaveral
Royal Caribbean marked the official naming of Star of the Seas with a ceremony in Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida. The event took place in the ship’s AquaTheater, where research astronaut and payload specialist Kellie Gerardi, serving as godmother, conferred her blessing on the vessel, its crew, and future guests.
“I’m honored to celebrate Royal Caribbean’s new Star of the Seas in such a meaningful naming ceremony as godmother – a tradition close to my heart and a spirit that spans both sea and space,” said Gerardi.
“A vacation on Star combines two of my greatest passions – exploration and family time – and I look forward to this journey beginning.”
The naming ceremony recognized the work of thousands who contributed to bringing the ship into service. Star of the Seas is now set to begin sailing with its first guests, offering a mix of entertainment, dining, and destinations, including visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, said: “Star of the Seas represents an important step in our journey to reimagine vacations. It brings together innovation, signature experiences, and sought-after destinations into one experience. With Star, we continue our mission to create meaningful vacations for guests of all ages.”
The ship features eight neighbourhoods, each offering a range of activities. Highlights include Category 6 waterpark, Crown’s Edge at 154 feet above the ocean, seven pools including a suspended infinity pool, Surfside neighbourhood designed for families with young children, more than 40 dining and bar options, and a wide variety of performances across air, ice, water, and stage.
Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, added: “Star of the Seas delivers a broad range of experiences for families and travellers of all ages. Today’s naming ceremony reflects the collaboration and dedication of the Royal Caribbean community who made it possible.”

Following the debut of Icon of the Seas in Miami, Star will offer seven-night itineraries from Port Canaveral to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay. Over the next three years, Royal Caribbean plans to expand its destinations further with Royal Beach Club Paradise Island (December 2025), Royal Beach Club Cozumel (2026), and Perfect Day Mexico (2027).
