MGallery to Open First Mountain Retreat in Valmorel

MGallery, part of Accor’s luxury division, has announced plans to open a new property in the French Alps at the Valmorel ski resort. Scheduled for 2027, the hotel will be the brand’s first retreat in a mountain setting.

The project is being developed in partnership with CLR Hotels, a subsidiary of the CGR Group, which operates across cinema, hospitality, dining, and wellness. Together, the two companies aim to highlight Valmorel as a destination for travellers seeking nature, culture, and responsible hospitality.

Maud Bailly, CEO Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems, said: “After our collaboration on La Grande Terrasse Hôtel & Spa La Rochelle – MGallery Collection, we are pleased to extend our partnership with CLR Hotels to Valmorel. This opening will bring the MGallery experience to the Alps for the first time, in a way that reflects the local environment and community.”

Design and Facilities

The hotel will be designed by Bertrand Pourrier, founder of ABP Architectes, with a focus on sustainable construction aligned with RE2020 standards and certifications such as BREEAM. Bio-sourced and local materials will be prioritised throughout the project.

The retreat will feature 82 rooms, with nearly one-third of them being suites. Guests will have direct access to ski slopes, as well as views of the surrounding valley and forest. Interiors will blend contemporary design with Savoyard elements such as stone, wood, and tartan.

Planned facilities include a fine dining restaurant, a terrace restaurant, a bar, a speakeasy, a 480 sqm spa with indoor and outdoor pools, a ski and snowboard room, a screening room, and a relaxation lounge for après-ski.

Sustainability and Community

The project will integrate landscape-sensitive design, energy efficiency, and local sourcing. Staff facilities will include 43 housing units and a restaurant. The hotel also intends to support the regional economy by working with local producers and artisans.

This development adds to MGallery’s portfolio of more than 120 boutique hotels worldwide, including 37 in France, with several more in progress. With the move into Valmorel, the brand is expanding into alpine destinations, complementing its presence in coastal, urban, and heritage locations.
