Le Méridien Lindeman Island Resort to Open in Queensland in 2027
Marriott International and La Vie Hotels Confirm Le Méridien Resort for Lindeman Island
International hotel operator La Vie Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Marriott International to introduce the Le Méridien brand to Lindeman Island in Queensland’s Whitsundays, with the resort scheduled to open in late 2027 following a AU$60 million redevelopment.
The project, named Le Méridien Lindeman Island Resort & Spa, will feature 209 keys, including 200 guest rooms and nine suites spread across the 70-hectare island site. The property will become Marriott’s first hotel in the Whitsundays and its first partnership with La Vie Hotels & Resorts.
Lindeman Island is owned by Singapore-based Well Smart Group, which acquired the site in 2023 for approximately AU$10 million. The island has remained inactive since sustaining extensive damage during Cyclone Debbie in 2017.
The redevelopment will include upgrades across accommodation, guest facilities and island infrastructure. Access to the island will be via a 20-minute boat transfer from Hamilton Island Airport.
Le Méridien Lindeman Island Resort & Spa will become the second Le Méridien property in Australia after Le Méridien Melbourne.

Richard Crawford, Vice President of Hotel Development for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific at Marriott International, said the project would strengthen Marriott’s existing Queensland portfolio, which already includes properties in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Port Douglas.
He added that Marriott International’s distribution network and Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme, which has nearly 283 million members globally, would help increase international visibility for the Whitsundays destination.
Well Smart Group Director Jack Jia said the partnership marked an important step in the island’s redevelopment plans and highlighted the alignment between the Le Méridien brand and the destination’s tourism potential.

La Vie Hotels & Resorts CEO Jerry Xu described the agreement as the company’s first collaboration with Marriott International and said the partnership would help connect the property with a broader international traveller base.
The wider Lindeman Island masterplan is valued at approximately AU$583 million, while the first phase focuses on the AU$60 million hotel redevelopment. The project is expected to create around 500 ongoing jobs and has received support from the Queensland Government’s Growing Futures Tourism Program, including funding for a new 50-metre jetty on the island.
Marriott International currently operates more than 9,900 properties globally and has 17 operating hotels across Australia, along with a pipeline of additional developments.
