Mathieu Essenberg Appointed Chief Operating Officer of KLM

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has appointed Mathieu Essenberg as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and a member of its statutory Executive Board, following approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders.

The appointment will take effect on 1 August 2026 and will run for a four-year term until after the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in 2031.

With this development, the airline’s Executive Board will consist of Marjan Rintel as President and CEO, Bas Brouns as Chief Financial Officer, Miriam Kartman as Chief People Officer, and Essenberg as Chief Operating Officer.

Essenberg had been serving as COO on an interim basis prior to the formal appointment. He joined the company in 2002 and has held management roles across flight operations, KLM Cityhopper, hub operations, and engineering and maintenance.
