IHG to Expand Greater China Footprint with New Hotel Openings in H1 2026
Travel demand across Greater China is evolving as guest preferences become more varied and experience-led. Travellers are increasingly choosing a wider mix of destinations, from major city centres to nature-based getaways, and seeking stays that suit different trip purposes, lengths of stay, and lifestyle needs.
In response to these shifts, IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to strengthen its presence across Greater China in 2026 through a new wave of hotel openings planned for the first half of the year. The upcoming additions will expand IHG’s network across multiple city tiers and travel occasions, aligned with changing guest expectations and market demand.
Daniel Aylmer, CEO, IHG Greater China, said: “Greater China remains a key market for IHG globally. We are seeing new travel patterns emerge, with longer and more varied stays, and guest expectations continuing to develop. In response, we will continue to advance our growth through a diverse brand portfolio and strong local operating expertise, delivering hotels that meet the needs of different locations, occasions, and guest segments. These sustained investments reflect our long-term focus on quality-led growth and value creation. Building on five decades in the market, we are continuing this journey alongside our hotel owners.”
IHG currently operates and has under development more than 1,400 hotels across over 200 cities in Greater China, spanning 13 brands. The openings scheduled for the first half of 2026 reflect a structured expansion across the region, supported by a portfolio designed to serve a wide range of traveller needs.
Expanding Across Established and Emerging Destinations

As travel activity increases beyond tier-one cities, IHG’s upcoming hotels will extend its presence into new tier-one and tier-two markets, as well as growing destinations across Greater China. This expansion is supported by a broad brand mix that enables the group to align hotel positioning with local demand and market characteristics.
Planned openings in the first half of 2026 include:
TFT Chongqing Vignette Collection, located in the city’s core area, supports IHG’s luxury presence in Southwest China
InterContinental Huzhou South Taihu
Atwell Hefei Downtown
Holiday Inn Resort Ningbo Ninghai
Holiday Inn Jinan Daming Lake
Holiday Inn Express Nanjing Confucius Temple
Together, these properties will add new options across business, leisure, and resort-focused travel in different parts of the region.
Hotels Designed for Different Travel Occasions

With travel motivations becoming more diverse, IHG’s upcoming openings are being positioned to serve a broad mix of occasions — from short city breaks and entertainment-driven trips to longer urban stays and regular city travel.
Several new hotels are being developed around key travel drivers such as theme parks, cultural attractions, and lifestyle districts.
Hotels scheduled to open in the first half of 2026 include:
InterContinental Taipei, located near Taipei Dome, caters to short-stay travel linked to events and entertainment
Holiday Inn Shanghai Tourism Zone, located near Shanghai Disney Resort, is designed for leisure and family stays
Meanwhile, THE ONE Shanghai Downtown Vignette Collection is positioned close to commercial and lifestyle districts, offering an urban stay experience shaped by access to culture, dining, and city life. Kimpton Shanghai 9 Tree Art Centre, located in a suburban gateway setting, is designed for travellers seeking nature, arts, and culture within reach of the city.
Local Character Through Design and Guest Experience
Guests are increasingly seeking hotels that reflect their destination’s identity. Across its portfolio, IHG continues to integrate local culture into design and guest experiences through architecture, interiors, and spatial storytelling that connect travellers to the surrounding environment.
Upcoming hotels that highlight this approach include:
Palm Springs Hotel Chengdu Vignette Collection, drawing inspiration from Sichuan craftsmanship and regional heritage
Hotel Indigo Chongqing Chaotianmen, incorporating the city’s landscape and local influences across public spaces and guest facilities
voco Beijing Temple of Heaven, reflecting Beijing’s cultural context through guestroom design and experience elements
Strengthening a Long-Term Growth Platform in Greater China

IHG’s first-half 2026 openings reflect its continued investment in Greater China through a multi-brand strategy supported by local operating capabilities. With properties spanning different city tiers, travel motivations, and guest segments, the group aims to build a network that responds to shifting travel behaviour while maintaining a consistent focus on brand delivery and guest experience.
