Alila Sengokuhara Hakone to Debut in Japan
Alila Sengokuhara Hakone Brings Onsen Retreat to Hakone
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced plans to open Alila Sengokuhara Hakone in 2028, marking the debut of the Alila brand in Japan. Developed in partnership with Fujita Corporation, the new resort will be located in Sengokuhara, a district of Hakone known for its hot springs, mountain scenery and natural surroundings.
Situated within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, the resort will offer guests easy access to Hakone’s landscapes, museums and seasonal attractions. The destination is recognised for its thermal waters, walking trails and views of Mount Kintoki, making it a popular choice for both domestic and international travellers.

David Udell, Group President, Asia Pacific, Hyatt, said the opening of Alila Sengokuhara Hakone marks an important step in expanding the Alila brand in Asia and offering travellers another accommodation option in Japan.
The resort has been designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates, with an architectural approach that blends with the surrounding landscape. The design follows the site’s natural contours, using natural light and locally inspired materials to create a connection between the built environment and nature.
Alila Sengokuhara Hakone will feature 60 guestrooms, including 11 suites, with every room offering a private natural onsen bath. The resort will also include a wellness programme centred on Japan’s traditional hot spring culture, complemented by a yoga deck and relaxation spaces.
Dining will focus on seasonal Japanese cuisine prepared using locally sourced ingredients from the surrounding region. The restaurant and bar will offer menus inspired by the landscapes, forests and coastal areas of Hakone and wider Japan.
Guests will also have access to Alila Moments, the brand’s curated experiences that encourage visitors to explore local culture, nature and traditions through guided activities and community-based experiences.
The project further strengthens the partnership between Hyatt and Fujita Corporation, which has previously collaborated on hospitality developments in the region.
With the opening of Alila Sengokuhara Hakone, Hyatt will expand its portfolio in Japan to ten brands, supporting its continued growth in the country.
