Etihad and TAROM Expand Connectivity Across Eastern Europe
Etihad Codeshare Partnership with TAROM Adds New Regional Connections
Etihad Airways and TAROM, Romania’s national carrier, have signed a new codeshare agreement aimed at improving connectivity between Abu Dhabi, Romania and several destinations across Eastern Europe.
The agreement was signed during the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro and will allow passengers to access a broader network through a single booking and coordinated travel experience.
Under the partnership, Etihad customers will be able to book flights from Bucharest to six Romanian cities served by TAROM: Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Oradea, Suceava and Timișoara. The agreement also covers flights to regional destinations including Belgrade, Budapest, Chișinău and Sofia.
The codeshare supports the launch of Etihad’s new Abu Dhabi–Bucharest route, scheduled to begin operations on 17 December 2026. Once the service starts, travellers will be able to connect between Bucharest and destinations across Etihad’s international network on a single ticket, with baggage checked through to their final destination.
For Etihad, the partnership provides wider access to Romania and neighbouring markets through TAROM’s established regional network. For passengers travelling from Romania, the agreement creates a direct connection to Abu Dhabi and onward access to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia through Etihad’s route network.
Romania continues to attract international visitors with destinations such as Transylvania, the Carpathian Mountains and the Danube Delta. The new arrangement provides travellers with additional options for reaching these locations through Bucharest.
Commenting on the agreement, Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said the partnership strengthens the airline’s presence in Eastern Europe by providing access to TAROM’s domestic and regional network ahead of the launch of the Bucharest route.
Mircea Nicolae Cotoros, Chief Commercial Officer of TAROM, said the agreement extends the airline’s international reach while creating new opportunities for travel between Romania, Abu Dhabi and destinations beyond.
With the addition of TAROM, Etihad’s partner network now includes 47 codeshare agreements and more than 130 interline partners, providing customers with access to more than 350 destinations worldwide through coordinated airline partnerships.
Bookings under the new codeshare agreement are now available through Etihad’s booking channels.
