Emirates Expands Economy Headrest Across Fleet

Emirates has introduced the U-Dream Headrest, a new adjustable headrest designed to improve comfort for Economy Class passengers. The airline has begun installing the feature across its fleet, with the rollout already underway on Airbus A350 aircraft.

The U-Dream Headrest is designed to provide additional neck and head support during sleep or relaxation. It will be fitted to all Emirates A350 aircraft and most Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s as part of the airline’s ongoing cabin enhancements.

Developed for Safran Seats’ Z400 Economy seat, the leather headrest features adjustable side wings that fold inward to support the head and neck. It also moves vertically and tilts to suit passengers of different heights, offering a more personalised seating experience.

The headrest has been independently tested and certified to meet European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) safety standards. Emirates says the design is intended to improve passenger comfort on both short- and long-haul flights.

Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the new headrest is designed to improve the travel experience for Economy Class passengers, particularly on longer journeys, by providing additional neck support without the need for a separate travel pillow.

The airline said cabin crew have been trained to assist passengers with using the new headrest, while the leather surface is cleaned after every flight as part of standard cabin procedures.

The U-Dream Headrest is currently available on three Emirates A350 aircraft. The airline plans to equip its entire A350 fleet by the end of the year. It will also be installed on all 270 Boeing 777X aircraft on order, while retrofitted Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s are scheduled to receive the headrest from 2027 onwards.
