The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has welcomed Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ new daily direct service between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, scheduled to begin on 8 August 2026. The route, with a flight time of around one hour and 20 minutes, is expected to improve travel connectivity between Thailand and Viet Nam while supporting tourism in both directions.
The new service was introduced during a launch event in Bangkok on 15 July 2026, attended by H.E. Mr Pham Viet Hung, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to Thailand, and Miss Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and South Pacific.
Speaking at the event, Miss Pattaraanong said the new route would provide travellers with more options and greater flexibility while supporting TAT’s collaboration with airline and tourism partners to improve travel between the two countries.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways, part of Sun Group, began commercial operations in November 2025. The airline operates a hub-and-spoke network centred on Phu Quoc, connecting the island with domestic and international destinations using an expanding fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 family aircraft. The Bangkok route forms part of the airline’s continued expansion across Asia.
The new service strengthens an existing network linking six Vietnamese cities with Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket, offering additional travel options for leisure and business travellers.
Vietnam continues to be an important short-haul market for Thailand. More than 300,000 Vietnamese visitors travelled to Thailand between January and early July 2026, with arrivals projected to reach 689,000 by the end of the year.
