Emirates Introduces A350 and Premium Economy to Adelaide
Emirates has introduced its Airbus A350 to Adelaide starting 1 December 2025, marking the first deployment of the long-range model to the city. Adelaide now offers Emirates’ Premium Economy cabin, completing the rollout across all five Australian gateways.
All five Australian cities served by Emirates now operate next-generation aircraft and feature the Premium Economy cabin: the four-class A380 in four cities, the four-class Boeing 777 from Melbourne, and the A350 from Adelaide. Emirates now operates 56 of its 70 weekly Australia-Dubai services on next-generation aircraft, providing over 5,000 weekly Premium Economy seats between Australia and Dubai.
Operating on EK440/441, the Airbus A350-900ULR replaces the Boeing 777-200LR. EK440 departs Dubai at 02:00hrs, arriving in Adelaide at 20:50hrs. EK441 departs Adelaide at 22:50hrs, arriving in Dubai at 05:20hrs local time the next day.
The A350 arrived in Adelaide with a water cannon salute. It was welcomed by South Australian Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison, Barry Brown, Divisional Vice President, Australasia, Emirates, and Brenton Cox, Managing Director, Adelaide Airport.
The Airbus A350-900ULR has a range exceeding 14,000 km and can fly non-stop for up to 15 hours. The aircraft features three cabin classes: 32 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, 28 Premium Economy seats in a 2-3-2 layout, and 238 Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.
Premium Economy seats include a 19.5-inch seat with a 40-inch recline, a 6-way adjustable headrest, a footrest, in-seat power, and a 13.3-inch screen. Dining is served on Royal Doulton tableware with stainless-steel cutlery, and passengers receive amenity kits, blankets, and pillows. Premium Economy passengers have priority boarding, a dedicated check-in area in Dubai, and a baggage allowance of up to 35kg.
Business Class features lie-flat seats with mini-bars, Economy Class seats have adjustable headrests, and all cabins include new technology such as wireless charging, advanced in-flight entertainment, improved seatback screens, Bluetooth headset pairing, and enhanced live map displays.
Emirates A350 services also offer high-performance Wi-Fi via ViaSat’s Global Xpress satellite network, allowing greater connectivity across all cabins.
Each daily flight provides 16 tonnes of cargo capacity, supporting exports including wine, seafood, chilled meat, fruits, vegetables, flowers, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and garments. Emirates’ operations between Adelaide and Dubai contribute an estimated $160 million annually, including tourism and freight activity.
The A350 deployment further strengthens Emirates’ Australian network, with 70 weekly return services to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth. Emirates’ extensive Dubai hub enables seamless connections from Australia to over 40 European destinations.
Emirates’ presence in Australia spans nearly three decades, including investments of more than $230 million in sponsorships across sports and the arts. In 2025, the airline launched its Force for Good program in Australia, delivering tennis programs to disadvantaged youth in the five cities it serves, reaching over 2,000 children and providing 6,500 opportunities to play tennis across 50 schools and community courts.
