EgyptAir Boeing 737 MAX Delivery
Boeing 737 MAX Joins EgyptAir Fleet Expansion
Boeing and EgyptAir have confirmed the delivery of the airline’s first Boeing 737 MAX 8. The aircraft is the first of 18 units to be leased from SMBC Aviation Capital and marks the introduction of the 737 MAX into EgyptAir’s fleet.
The addition forms part of EgyptAir’s ongoing fleet renewal programme. The 737-8 will operate on short- and medium-haul routes, including Paris, Brussels, Istanbul, and Vienna.

According to Ahmed Adel, chairman and CEO of EgyptAir Holding Company, the introduction of the aircraft supports the airline’s efforts to update its fleet and improve operational performance. The aircraft also aligns with plans to reduce fuel consumption and emissions as part of broader efficiency goals.
The 737-8 will operate alongside the airline’s existing fleet of Next-Generation 737 aircraft, offering operational commonality. The aircraft is designed to reduce fuel use and emissions by around 20 per cent compared to the models it replaces.

Barry Flannery, chief commercial officer at SMBC Aviation Capital, noted that the delivery reflects ongoing collaboration between the leasing company and the airline, with a focus on introducing newer aircraft into service.

Anbessie Yitbarek, Boeing vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Africa, added that the delivery marks a step in EgyptAir’s fleet development and builds on its long-standing relationship with Boeing.
Passengers on the aircraft will experience features such as the Boeing Sky Interior, which includes LED lighting, redesigned overhead bins and updated cabin elements.
The airline has operated aircraft from the 737 family since 1975 and currently also flies Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner aircraft on its long-haul operations.
