Diageo India Expands Learning for Life Initiative with New Training Centre
Diageo India has launched a new hospitality skill centre in Ponda, Goa, under its Learning for Life initiative to strengthen employability and support workforce development in the tourism and hospitality sector.
The centre has been established in partnership with the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) and aims to train 200 young people annually with industry-relevant hospitality skills.
The initiative is designed to create employment opportunities while supporting the talent needs of Goa’s growing tourism and hospitality industry.
Skill Centre Focuses on Hospitality Careers
The new facility will provide structured hospitality training aligned with current industry requirements.
Training programmes will cover:
- Hospitality operations
- Communication skills
- Digital literacy
- Workplace readiness
- Professional development skills
Participants will receive training from certified instructors and undergo assessments conducted through THSC.
Successful candidates will receive certification and placement support through the council’s industry network.
Industry Partners Support Employment Opportunities
Several hospitality industry representatives attended the launch and expressed support for the initiative.

- Sterling Holiday Resorts
Representatives interacted with students and highlighted career opportunities available within the hospitality sector.
Participating companies also indicated their willingness to recruit suitable candidates upon successful completion of the training programme.
Initiative Supports Local Youth Development
The centre was inaugurated by Subhash A. Shirodkar in the presence of representatives from Diageo India, THSC and local stakeholders.
Speaking at the launch, Shirodkar said initiatives focused on skill development play an important role in creating career opportunities for young people and supporting long-term economic growth in Goa.

Learning for Life Programme Continues to Grow
According to Diageo India, the Learning for Life programme focuses on improving employability and enabling sustainable livelihoods through vocational training.
Devashish Dasgupta said the Goa centre represents an important step in expanding the programme’s reach and helping more young people gain the skills needed to participate in the workforce.
Hospitality Sector Benefits from Skilled Workforce
Rajan Bahadur noted that tourism and hospitality remain key sectors for Goa’s economy.
He said bringing industry-focused training closer to local communities can help young people build long-term careers while supporting the future growth of the hospitality industry.
Programme Has Reached Thousands of Youth
Since its launch in 2020, Diageo India’s Learning for Life programme has supported more than 8,500 young people.
The initiative continues to focus on workforce inclusion, employability enhancement and creating sustainable career pathways within the hospitality sector through training, industry exposure and placement support.
