Bangladesh Plans Aviation Expansion in Bogura
Bogura Airport Development to Support Northern Bangladesh Connectivity
The Bangladesh government has announced plans to develop Bogura Airport as a key aviation hub for the country’s northern region, aiming to strengthen regional connectivity, trade, and cargo operations.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam shared the details during an inspection visit to Bogura Airport on 7 May, during which she arrived by a special Bangladesh Air Force helicopter.
The visit was also attended by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Mir Shahe Alam.

Speaking during the visit, Minister Afroza Khanam said the government has initiated plans to strengthen aviation infrastructure in Bogura under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, with a focus on improving connectivity and supporting the economic potential of northern Bangladesh.
According to officials, the proposed development includes the construction of an international-standard airport with a planned 10,500-foot runway capable of handling both domestic and international aircraft operations.
The government is also considering adding cargo-handling facilities to support the transportation and export of agricultural and industrial goods from the northern region.

As part of the broader aviation plan, authorities are exploring the establishment of a pilot training academy and additional aviation infrastructure at Bogura Airport to support future aviation activity and workforce development in the region.
Among those present during the inspection were Hasan Mahmood Khan, the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary, Fahmida Akhtar, and senior ministry and airport officials.
