American Airlines Unveils Special Flagship Livery Ahead of Centennial
With six months to go until American Airlines celebrates its centennial, the airline is introducing a special livery that will begin flying in November on a Boeing 777-300 (N735AT). The livery combines one of American’s original designs with a modern update, coinciding with interior upgrades to the aircraft.
Ron DeFeo, Chief Communications Officer, said, “American has selected a design that reflects our history while looking ahead. The ‘Flagship’ brand has been associated with premium travel, and applying the original Flagship design to our aircraft honors that legacy as we continue to update the customer experience.”
Design Details
The aircraft’s base paint is Silver Eagle, a colour found on more than 1,600 planes in American’s fleet. The orange lightning bolt motif, first introduced nearly 90 years ago on the Douglas DC-3, returns on both sides of the plane. In keeping with tradition, the aircraft will be named “Flagship DFW”, referencing American’s home hub.
At the rear, a roundel featuring an eagle motif pays tribute to American’s history and global network. The airline operates flights to more than 350 destinations worldwide.
Flagship Experience
The Flagship experience continues with Flagship lounges and Flagship Business Class. The Boeing 777-300 fleet will be refreshed with Flagship Suite seats, Premium Economy, and updated Main Cabin products.
Highlights include:
Flagship Suite: Business class seats with privacy doors, wireless charging, a chaise lounge seating option, and an adjustable headrest pillow.
Premium Economy: Wireless charging, new headrest wings, and improved calf and footrests.
Main Cabin: Updated international in-flight experience with 4K QLED screens, USB-C, and AC power.
The refreshed 777-300 aircraft will feature 70 Flagship Suite seats and 44 Premium Economy seats.
Centennial Commemoration
American’s centennial will be celebrated through its Brand Store, offering historic advertising, vintage imagery, and centennial-themed merchandise. Collections will expand throughout the year to commemorate the airline’s history and design heritage.
