Air New Zealand Reveals Plans for Expanded Koru Lounge at Auckland Airport
Air New Zealand has announced plans for a new flagship Koru Lounge at Auckland International Airport, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2026.
The upgraded lounge will nearly double in size and include two distinct areas: one dedicated to Airpoints Elite and Business Premier customers, and another for Airpoints Gold, Star Alliance Gold, Airpoints Silver, and Koru members.
Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran said the redesign was based on customer feedback prioritizing more space, additional seating, and flexibility in how travellers spend their time.
“Seating capacity across both lounges will increase by 70%, offering more room and comfort for international passengers,” said Foran.
“We’re creating spaces that reflect the different needs of our travellers—whether that’s a quiet area to work, room for families, or a social zone to unwind.”
The new interior concept draws inspiration from Aotearoa’s landscapes, with materials, lighting, and artwork chosen to reflect the country’s natural textures and tones.
The project will be completed in two phases. The current lounge will remain open at a reduced capacity during the first phase, with a focus on the new Elite and Business Premier lounge. Once that is operational, the existing lounge will be redeveloped, with full completion expected by late 2027.

During construction, Air New Zealand will continue to offer lounge services through alternative spaces. Updates and access details will be shared via the Air NZ app and provided on the day of travel.
