Novotel Vijayawada Varun Highlights Sustainable Hospitality Initiatives

Novotel Vijayawada Varun is marking World Nature Conservation Day by highlighting its sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact and promoting responsible tourism.

Observed annually on 28 July, World Nature Conservation Day encourages organisations and individuals to adopt practices that help conserve natural resources. In line with this year’s theme, ‘Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature’, the hotel continues to integrate environmentally responsible measures into its daily operations.

One of the hotel’s key initiatives has been the transition from diesel to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for boiler operations used in laundry steam generation. Introduced in March 2023, the change has helped reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 98 tonnes annually while eliminating sulphur dioxide emissions associated with diesel-based operations.

The hotel has also expanded its use of solar energy. Since early 2025, solar power has supplied approximately 33 to 44 per cent of the property’s monthly electricity requirements, contributing to an estimated annual reduction of 1,476 to 1,968 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

To support cleaner transportation, Novotel Vijayawada Varun provides complimentary electric vehicle charging stations for guests. The property has also eliminated single-use plastics as part of its waste reduction efforts.

Manish Pathak, Hotel Manager, Novotel Vijayawada Varun, said World Nature Conservation Day provides an opportunity for organisations to strengthen their environmental initiatives through practical measures. He added that the hotel remains focused on adopting responsible operational practices while maintaining a comfortable guest experience.

The hotel’s sustainability efforts have also been recognised with the Green Key Certification, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education.

As sustainability continues to influence the hospitality industry, Novotel Vijayawada Varun remains focused on responsible resource management, cleaner energy adoption and environmentally conscious operations.
