The ePlane Company Introduces the e200X Aircraft
The ePlane Company has unveiled the e200X (PT-01), its first full-scale electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, following five years of research and development and more than 10,000 kilometres of test flights. The aircraft was introduced at the company’s new 60,000 sq ft production facility in Chennai.
Developed at IIT Madras’ Discovery Campus, the e200X has been designed for urban operations with a compact footprint of 8 metres by 11 metres, allowing it to operate from existing infrastructure such as helipads and open spaces. The company said the design could support rooftop operations in the future, subject to regulatory approvals and infrastructure readiness.
The aircraft is built using a carbon-fibre composite airframe and has a maximum gross weight of 2.2 tonnes. It uses the company’s patented Synergistic Lift wing architecture, which combines separate propulsion systems for vertical lift and forward flight, reducing mechanical complexity while improving redundancy.
The e200X is powered by an 800-volt electric propulsion system and offers a flight range of 110 kilometres. It can carry one pilot and two passengers, or up to 200 kg of cargo, making it suitable for passenger transport, emergency medical services and logistics operations.
The aircraft is equipped with onboard computing powered by NVIDIA IGX Thor, while navigation and situational awareness systems are supplied by HENSOLDT. Battery management software and predictive fleet analytics have been developed in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

According to Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, Founder and Technical Lead of The ePlane Company, the prototype reflects years of engineering and testing, with lessons from the company’s earlier flight demonstrators incorporated into the full-scale aircraft.
The ePlane Company’s e200X has secured commitments for over 800 aircraft, with a substantial portion designated for emergency medical transport. The prototype is set to undergo ground testing before moving on to certified flight trials, which are expected to commence in mid-2027.
