Kimpton El Castelar Polanco Opens in Historic Mexico City Building
Kimpton El Castelar Polanco Brings Boutique Hospitality to Mexico City
IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened Kimpton El Castelar Polanco, a 34-room boutique hotel in the Polanquito neighbourhood of Mexico City. The property is located at Emilio Castelar 107 in Polanco and occupies the restored Roel Building, originally opened in 1940 and designed by architect Francisco J. Serrano during the Mexican Art Nouveau period.
Situated close to Avenida Presidente Masaryk, Lincoln Park, Chapultepec Castle, the National Auditorium and the National Museum of Anthropology, the hotel offers guests easy access to many of the city’s cultural and business districts.
The restoration of the historic building combines its original architectural character with contemporary interiors inspired by Mexican craftsmanship. Guest rooms feature locally sourced furniture, original artwork by Mexican artists, wooden flooring, natural stone finishes and decorative cement tiles influenced by traditional Mexican ceramics. Many rooms also include soaking tubs.
The hotel offers several outdoor terraces overlooking the surrounding neighbourhood, along with a rooftop swimming pool designed for relaxation.

Alejandro Gallegos, General Manager of Kimpton El Castelar Polanco, said the hotel has been designed to reflect the character of the Polanquito district while encouraging guests to explore the local neighbourhood, its culture and attractions.
Guests can also enjoy a range of Kimpton signature experiences, including the daily Kimpton Kickstart programme with complimentary coffee and premium teas, and the evening Kimpton Social Hour, offering complimentary beverages and light refreshments. Additional amenities include complimentary bicycles, yoga mats in every room and pet-friendly accommodation at no extra charge.

Leanne Harwood, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Luxury & Lifestyle, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said the opening strengthens Kimpton’s presence in Mexico and Latin America while supporting the brand’s approach of integrating each property into its local community.
Kimpton El Castelar Polanco joins Kimpton Virgilio, which opened in 2024 in the same neighbourhood. Both hotels occupy restored historic apartment buildings and form part of Kimpton’s expanding portfolio across the region.
