IGBC Certification Highlights Evoke Dholavira’s Sustainable Resort Practices

Evoke Dholavira Resort, a unit of Eyak Ventures Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad, has been awarded the IGBC Green Resort Silver Certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The certification recognizes the resort’s efforts towards environmental sustainability, responsible resource management and sustainable hospitality practices.

Located near Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Gujarat’s Kutch district, the resort has integrated sustainable design, resource-efficient operations and community-focused initiatives into its development and daily operations. The property is also the first resort in the Kutch region to receive the IGBC Green Resort Silver Certification.

A key aspect of the resort’s sustainability programme is its landscape design. More than 81 per cent of the landscaped area features drought-tolerant and native plant species, helping to reduce irrigation requirements while supporting local biodiversity. The initiative has contributed to increased green cover and improved outdoor environmental conditions for guests and visitors.

The resort has also implemented water conservation measures that allow treated wastewater generated on-site to be reused for flushing and landscaping purposes. Through these systems, nearly 90 per cent of wastewater is recycled, reducing dependence on freshwater resources. In addition, Evoke Dholavira meets the potable water needs of the nearby village of Dholavira, reflecting its commitment to responsible resource management and community support.

Commenting on the achievement, C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, CII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), said that the hospitality sector plays an important role in promoting sustainable development and responsible tourism. He noted that Evoke Dholavira has adopted measures covering water conservation, biodiversity enhancement, sustainable procurement and environmental management.

The resort has further strengthened its sustainability efforts by using environmentally friendly housekeeping chemicals, supported by established housekeeping protocols and an integrated pest management programme. These measures help minimise environmental impact while maintaining hygiene and guest comfort standards.

Supporting local communities also forms part of the resort’s sustainability strategy. Evoke Dholavira sources all its fruits and vegetables from local vendors, helping reduce transportation-related emissions while supporting regional businesses and encouraging local sourcing.

The IGBC Green Resorts Rating System assesses properties across several sustainability parameters, including guest experience, resort design and infrastructure, sustainable landscaping, facility management, societal contribution and innovation. The Silver Certification reflects the resort’s approach to balancing hospitality operations with environmental and community considerations.
