Phuket Airport Introduces Automated Passport Channels
Automated Passport System to Support Immigration Processing at Phuket Airport
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has advised travellers using Phuket International Airport that automated passport channels for international departures will begin operating from 13 June 2026.
According to Phuket Airport Immigration, the Automatic Border Channel (ABC) system will be available in the International Departure Immigration Area and is intended to enable faster, more efficient passenger processing.
Travellers planning to use the system must meet specific eligibility requirements. The automated channels are available only to passengers holding an electronic passport (e-Passport). Thai nationals will be able to use all available ABC channels.
Passengers must be at least 120 centimetres tall to use the system. In addition, baggage exceeding 120 centimetres in height is not permitted through the automated channels. Pregnant passengers are not eligible to use the facility.
Before entering the ABC channel, travellers are required to remove face masks, hats and glasses. Passports must be presented without covers, sleeves, or wrapping and should be placed individually on the passport reader, with no other items attached.
Immigration authorities have also advised that passports must have a minimum validity of 6 months (180 days) remaining from the date of travel.
Passengers who are unable to use the automated channels will continue to be processed through standard immigration counters under the guidance of immigration officers.
As part of preparations for the new system, improvement works are underway in a section of the International Arrivals Immigration Area. The work is expected to continue until 9 July 2026 and is intended to support the installation and integration of the ABC infrastructure.
No changes to airport operations or flight schedules have been announced. Travellers arriving at or departing from Phuket International Airport are advised to allow sufficient time for immigration procedures, follow airport signage and monitor official updates from Phuket Airport Immigration and airport authorities.
The introduction of automated passport channels is part of ongoing efforts to enhance passenger processing and support increased international travel through Phuket International Airport.
