SEA Airport Issues Travel Advisory for Holiday Period
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has outlined operational updates and passenger guidance ahead of the upcoming Memorial Day travel period and a major international soccer tournament expected to increase passenger volumes.

Seattle-Tacoma Airport Prepares for Memorial Day Travel Rush
The airport expects approximately 970,000 passengers between May 21 and May 26. The busiest travel days are projected to be May 21 and 22, with around 180,000 passengers each day, followed by May 25 with approximately 170,000.
Real-time security checkpoint wait times are now available through the airport’s mobile app and digital displays across terminals. Airport guidance continues to recommend arrival at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures.
Recent infrastructure updates include the reopening of Checkpoint 6 following redesign and the addition of Checkpoint 1, aimed at improving passenger flow.
Programs such as SEA Spot Saver and TSA PreCheck remain available to streamline security screening. Airport staff are positioned throughout terminals to assist passengers with navigation and queue selection.
Ground Transport and Parking
Parking demand is expected to be high, with reserved parking availability limited. The airport advises advance booking where possible. General parking users are advised to allow additional time.
New transit information displays have been installed in baggage claim areas, providing real-time updates on public transport services, including light rail and bus connections.
Roadway and Access Improvements
Recent roadway upgrades have added new lanes to improve vehicle access to the terminal. Separate lanes have been designated for parking garage entry and rideshare or shuttle services.
The airport also advises passengers to use alternative transportation options such as public transit, taxis and shuttle services during peak periods.
Rideshare Facilities
The rideshare pickup area has been expanded, increasing capacity and improving traffic flow within the airport garage. Passengers are advised to use verified app-based services and confirm trip details before boarding.
Additional Initiatives
The airport is also recruiting seasonal volunteers as part of its ambassador programme to assist travelers during the busy summer period.
Travel Timing Guidance
Peak passenger arrivals typically occur before 9 a.m., with additional busy periods between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., and 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Passengers are advised to plan accordingly to avoid congestion.
