Zostel Opens in Varanasi, Expanding Its Presence in India’s Spiritual Travel Circuit
Zostel has launched a new property in Varanasi, marking its entry into one of India’s key spiritual and heritage destinations. The opening reflects the brand’s continued focus on culturally rooted locations that attract youth-led and experience-driven travel.
According to internal 2025 booking data shared by the company, more than 95 per cent of travellers across Zostel’s spiritual destinations are Gen Z and millennials. International travellers account for around 10 per cent of bookings, indicating strong domestic demand in this segment.
Location and Design
Zostel Varanasi is located near Dashashwamedh Ghat and the old-city corridors, placing guests within walking distance of the city’s religious and cultural landmarks. The property offers dormitories and private rooms, along with common areas designed to encourage interaction among travellers. A rooftop space overlooks the city skyline, and the interiors incorporate muted tones inspired by the local landscape.
Focus on Cultural Engagement

The property’s programming centres on immersive experiences. Activities include guided sunrise walks along the ghats, evening Ganga aarti, heritage tours, and neighbourhood-based cultural interactions. The aim is to encourage travellers to engage more closely with the city’s traditions and daily life.

Aviral Gupta, CEO of Zostel and Zo World, said the launch aligns with the company’s strategy to expand into destinations with cultural depth and experiential travel opportunities. He noted that younger travellers are increasingly exploring India’s sacred cities with an interest in meaningful engagement.
The Varanasi launch follows Zostel’s recent expansion into Kufri, where the company introduced a destination-led concept featuring recreational amenities tailored to younger travellers. Together, these openings form part of Zostel’s 2026 roadmap, which prioritises growth in culturally significant and experience-focused markets.
With its entry into Varanasi, the hostel brand continues to build its presence across India’s spiritual and heritage circuit, responding to demand for community-oriented stays that combine affordability with local immersion.
