Waldorf Astoria Marbella Signed for Spain’s Malaga Province
Hilton and Higuerón Developments have announced the signing of Waldorf Astoria Marbella, bringing the Waldorf Astoria brand to Spain’s Málaga Province. Scheduled to open in 2029, the resort will reflect Marbella’s Andalusian character through contemporary design while offering Waldorf Astoria’s personalised service, including the brand’s Personal Concierge.
Located along the Mediterranean coastline, Waldorf Astoria Marbella will feature 120 guestrooms and suites, as well as 120 branded residences. The project is designed to balance residential comfort with hotel services and will be shaped through a conceptual design competition involving three Pritzker Prize–winning architects.
Chris Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton, said the signing supports Hilton’s strategy to expand its luxury portfolio globally. He noted that the project continues Hilton’s collaboration with Higuerón Developments and introduces the Waldorf Astoria brand to Marbella as part of its broader international growth plans.
Javier Rodríguez, CEO of Higuerón Developments, said the project aligns with the company’s long-term vision for the Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort and reflects its focus on authenticity, innovation, and sustainability. He added that the development aims to strengthen Marbella’s position as a destination for high-end leisure travel.
Dining, Wellness, and Events
Waldorf Astoria Marbella will offer a range of dining venues, including the brand’s Peacock Alley, a lobby bar, a signature restaurant, and a pool bar and grill. Wellness facilities will include a 750-square-metre spa with four treatment rooms, a gym, and indoor and outdoor pools with deck areas.
For meetings and social events, the resort will feature a grand ballroom, a multifunction space, two connected meeting rooms, and an executive boardroom, catering to both corporate and private gatherings.
Residences and Recreation
The branded residences will provide owners with access to dedicated amenities such as an owner’s lounge, fitness facilities, and a private dining room, along with hotel services. Both hotel guests and residents will also have access to a championship golf course originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1994. The course is set to undergo a redesign led by Robert Trent Jones Jr., with a contemporary, sustainable approach.
Global Context
Waldorf Astoria Marbella will join Hilton’s global Waldorf Astoria portfolio of more than 65 hotels operating or in development worldwide. The signing ceremony took place in New York on 5 November and was attended by senior leadership from Hilton and Higuerón Developments.
With this project, Hilton continues to expand its presence in Southern Europe and introduce the Waldorf Astoria brand to a new destination in Spain.
