The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) has taken a significant step toward strengthening the country’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector by engaging the next generation of professionals through an educational initiative targeted at university students.

Held at Hilton Colombo Residences, the full-day MICE Tourism Training Session brought together students from more than ten universities and colleges across the Western Province. The event aimed to build awareness and foster interest in Sri Lanka’s growing MICE industry, aligning with SLCB’s mission to position the country as a competitive global destination for business events.

Industry Experts Inspire the Next Generation

The training featured insights from key industry figures, including Mr. Tharindu Karunarathne, Dr. Shaffaath Amidon, Ms. Felicia Adhihetty, and Mr. Dileep Mudadeniya. Sessions covered emerging trends in digital marketing, artificial intelligence, creativity, sustainability, and the concept of legacy impact in the MICE space.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Achini Dandunnage, Acting General Manager of SLCB, emphasized the importance of collaboration between academia and the tourism industry to nurture future talent and drive innovation in the sector.

The session provided a platform for students to engage with real-world perspectives, participate in discussions, and present group projects that showcased their creativity and understanding of MICE tourism. Their active involvement throughout the programme demonstrated strong enthusiasm and awareness of the sector’s potential.

At the end of the session, each participant received a certificate of participation, acknowledging their contribution and interest in the MICE industry.

SLCB’s Continued Commitment to MICE Development

Through educational outreach like this, the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau continues its mission to strengthen the foundation of the MICE ecosystem by developing future professionals, attracting investment, and strategically promoting Sri Lanka as a preferred destination for international events.
