Founded in Mallorca in 1956, Meliá Hotels International has developed a presence across 46 countries and currently operates more than 400 hotels worldwide. Headquartered in Palma de Mallorca, the company has expanded its footprint through a portfolio of nine hotel brands serving both leisure and business travellers.
Its brand portfolio includes Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts, ME by Meliá, Paradisus by Meliá, Meliá Hotels & Resorts and INNSiDE by Meliá, among others. The company’s business strategy focuses on hospitality, innovation, sustainability and guest experience across a wide range of destinations.
Meliá Hotels International has also continued to invest in environmental initiatives, social responsibility programmes and digital transformation as part of its long-term growth strategy. These efforts form part of the company’s broader approach to responsible tourism and operational development.

Welcoming the company to the organisation, Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of WTTC, said Meliá’s international presence and commitment to sustainability, community engagement and innovation would bring valuable perspectives to the council’s global membership.
She noted that WTTC looks forward to working with Meliá Hotels International on initiatives that support a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient travel and tourism sector while strengthening the industry’s contribution to economic development and cultural exchange.

Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, said the company’s seven decades in hospitality have demonstrated the importance of collaboration in achieving industry goals and advancing tourism development through cooperation between the public and private sectors.
He added that organisations such as WTTC provide an important platform for knowledge sharing, policy development and industry dialogue, helping to support the future growth and sustainability of global tourism.
The addition of Meliá Hotels International further expands WTTC’s network of travel and tourism businesses working together on issues including sustainability, industry resilience, innovation and long-term sector development.
