JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo Appoints Jakob Helgen as General Manager

JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo has appointed Jakob Helgen as General Manager, effective June 28, 2026.

Helgen brings more than 22 years of experience with Marriott International. Most recently, he served as Area Vice President for Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar from 2019 to 2024, where he oversaw regional operations and development.

Prior to that, he held the role of Market Vice President for South China and later Area Vice President overseeing Hong Kong, Macau, Hainan and Taiwan. During his tenure, he was involved in Marriott International’s expansion across these markets.
Helgen began his career with Marriott International in 2002 as Director of Food & Beverage at Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon. He later held operational leadership roles at JW Marriott Mumbai and JW Marriott Seoul, followed by a position as Area Director of Operations for China based in Hong Kong. Over the years, he has held multiple leadership roles across the Asia Pacific region.
Before joining Marriott International, he worked in food and beverage operations at Relais & Châteaux properties and Michelin-starred restaurants across Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom and France.
Helgen studied Hotel Management in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and completed an Executive MBA from the University of Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law in 2022.
The appointment comes following the opening of JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo in October 2025 and aligns with the hotel’s ongoing operational leadership.
